The Hillsborough Planning Division strives to serve customers with professionalism and teamwork, with an emphasis on front loading the design review process to avoid surprises and create the most efficient design review possible. We remain directly available to help the citizens of Hillsborough through each step of the process.
Responsibilities & Services
The Planning Division is responsible for design review, zoning, environmental assessment and long-term planning.
- Design review involves providing staff services to the town’s Architecture and Design Review Board, processing design review applications, conducting public hearings, and implementing the town’s design guidelines.
- Zoning includes the administration of the town’s Title 17 - Zoning Ordinance and other development regulations of the Hillsborough Municipal Code and providing zoning information to homeowners and developers.
- Environmental assessment involves the preparation of environmental documents as required for both private and town projects consistent with provisions of the California Environmental Quality Act.
- Long-term planning involves the preparation, maintenance and implementation of the town’s General Plan.

This will allow our Staff sufficient time to process your application submittals accurately and completely which helps streamline your overall process.
