John Mullins
with the Hillsborough City Manager’s Office will be outlining what you should do in the event of a local or regional emergency.  The discussion will also outline the structure and processes of the HNN program.
 

6:15 – 7:30
      Learn about the San Mateo County (SMC) Alert notification system. 
Lieutenant Nelson Corteway with the Hillsborough Police Department will be running a live exercise using the SMC ALERT notification system.  The SMC Alert program is an alert notification system used to immediately contact you during urgent or emergency situations. You can set alerts to receive emergency and non-emergency text and voice messages to your email accounts, cell phones, smartphones, tablets and landline phones.   

7:30 – 8:00        Learn more about being prepared for the dangers around us in the world today.

Captain Doug Davis with the Hillsborough Police Department and the Commander of the San Mateo County Terrorism Counter Assault Team will be presenting information on a Run-Hide-Fight scenario to better prepare yourself and your families for emergency situations.  We will be having a frank discussion on the topic of surviving an active shooter situation.  Hear from members of the counter terrorism unit discuss the facts and mindset required to survive a dynamic event as well as a live demonstration on key factors associated with an active shooter incident.

The presentation will include: What to look for during emergencies, gas leak safety tips, and downed power line safety tips and how to report PG&E related incidents. Please always remember if you smell natural gas, see downed power lines, or suspect another emergency situation, leave the area immediately and call 9-1-1. Then, call PG&E at 1-800-743-5000.  Sheri Aguirre | Managing Director for California Residential Mitigation Program which includes the Earthquake Brace and Bolt Program (EBB)

EBB program was established to help Californians strengthen their homes against damage from earthquakes. The program was created by the California Earthquake Authority inconjuction with the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services.  The presentation will cover Earthquake Brace + Bolt methodology that was developed to help homeowners lessen the potential damage to their homes from earthquakes. Tuesday, January 26, 2016 - Storm Preparedness and Resident Alert Notification

Rainstorms are expected to intensify over the next few months. In Hillsborough, impacts can include property and road flooding, downed trees and power lines, sewer overflows, personal injury, and power outages. 
The Public Works Department (PWD) and Central County Fire Department (CCFD) are teaming up to provide important information on:
  • how to prepare your property
  • what to look for in the community
  • how the Town responds to emergencies
 Additionally, the Police Department (HPD) will provide more information about the San Mateo County Alert (SMC Alert) System, its importance during an emergency and the system's new features. Bring your tablets and mobile devices for a hands-on demonstration of the SMC Alert System.  SMC Alert is the Town's primary notification method in the event of an emergency.  Staff will be on hand to assist you in signing up for an account as well ensuring those who already have an account are taking advantage of the new options.
