RethinkWaste Launches Convenient "My-Waste" Mobile App RethinkWaste is excited to announce the launch of the "my-waste"™ mobile app to make it more convenient for residents to find information on their CartSMART Recycle, Compost and Garbage collection services using their smartphones. The app enables single-family residents in the service area to download the full range of information that is available on the RethinkWaste website. The free mobile app is available for both the Apple and Android systems. Residents will also be able to make service requests, report a service issue, set reminders, find contact information or check their collection schedules using "my-waste."
The app also includes a calendar, information on the Shoreway Environmental Center and the Door-to-Door Household Hazardous Waste Collection Program in the communities that the program is offered. You can download the app through the http://www.rethinkwaste.org/ or through the Apple and Android app stores.
Trash, Recyclables and Organics Collection Trash, recyclables and organics are collected weekly as of January 3, 2011.
Trash is placed in the black cart. Recyclables in the blue cart. Organics in the green cart.

Residents are encouraged to place the recycling containers at the curb no sooner than the evening prior to the pickup and to remove them as soon as possible after pickup, but no later than the evening of pickup.
In addition to collecting the carts Recology will collect used batteries and motor oil (1 gallon per week in a 1 gallon jug). Recology also collects bulky items twice a year at no charge to you. Call their customer service line for more information (650) 595-3900.
Rear/Side Yard Service Residents can request rear/side yard service for a monthly fee. The cost is based on your trash subscription (black carts.) The fee is based on the distance of the cart from the curb and the number of carts.
Residents with physical limitations can receive a waiver from this fee. Please contact Recology (650) 595-3900, if you need this assistance.
Complaints About Service Residents should first contact Recology at (650) 595-3900 or www.recologysanmateocounty.com about their concerns. In general, most problems can be resolved with a phone call. If you are experiencing chronic problems please contact Public Works at (650) 375-7444 or firstname.lastname@example.org. The Town has access to Recology's computer information and dedicated company contacts to resolve issues.
The Town's franchise requires Recology to be responsive to residents' needs, and procedures are in place for the Town to fine Recology for patterns of poor customer service.

Mandatory Commercial Recycling - AB 341 The new California Assembly Bill (AB) 341 requires all businesses that generate four (4) or more cubic yards of garbage per week to recycle by July 1, 2012. The specific statutory language for AB 341 can be found in the State's Public Resources Code: PRC Division 30, Part 3, Chapter 12.8, Section 42649.

Other compliance In addition to having recycling services services provided by Recology, customers can also self-haul the recyclables or arrange for their pickup.

South Bayside Waste Management Authority (SBWMA) www.ReThinkWaste.org The Town is a member of a joint powers authority that includes 11 other public agencies. The SBWMA owns the Shoreway Environmental Center where all trash, recyclables and organics is delivered after collection from Hillsborough.
The Director of Public Works serves as the Town's representative to the SBWMA.
