Nueva Master Plan Update

Nueva School Master Plan Update

The City Council adopted the last Nueva School Master Plan Update in 1996. The key changes proposed from the 1996 Master Plan in the Nueva Master Plan Update include:

  • Request for an increase in enrollment from 400 to 500 students
  • A net total of 23,240 square feet of additional building space to include a new middle school building, a new Environmental Center, new covered sports court, cafe expansion, new multi-purpose building, circulation and parking improvements and other smaller improvements

The proposal spans a projected 15-year time period. It is also important to note that the Nueva School Master Plan Update does not include the addition of a high school at the existing school site, 6565 Skyline Boulevard, Hillsborough, California. The Nueva High School is located in San Mateo and is not associated with the current Hillsborough application.

Code Amendment Requests

The Nueva Master Plan Update proposal involves a request for a General Plan Amendment, Zoning Code Amendment, Permit to Operate Amendment, and environmental review due to the requested increase in enrollment beyond that permitted under the current General Plan and Zoning Code and the additional buildings proposed. The potential key issues involve traffic and noise associated with an increase in use intensity. While the impacts associated with the proposal may not reach a level of environmental significance as defined by the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), the town will want to consider methods for offsetting potential community impacts.

The proposal received preliminary / conceptual review by the City Council in September 2012, the meeting minutes and associated materials of which are available below.

The proposal does not involve specific / design review of buildings but rather the school's strategic plan for the future. The design and specifics of future new buildings will require separate consideration and approval. The Nueva School submitted a formal application to the town in early 2013 and environmental review is currently underway. Documents pertinent to the formal application from the Nueva School are available via the links below and it is anticipated that the proposal will be formally reviewed by the City Council in the fall and winter months.

The Nueva School will be conducting independent public outreach to residents of the town over the few months and town staff remains available to answer any questions you may have at 650-375-7422 or via email.
