Code Enforcement

Mission

The mission of the Code Enforcement program is to develop and administer a program of education and policy compliance overseeing the condition of public and private property in order to enhance the town’s heritage of natural beauty, foster its legacy of public safety and sustain the value of property for all residents.

Purpose

The members of the Code Enforcement Panel are appointed by the Mayor to hear testimony regarding public nuisances requiring abatement under the Hillsborough Municipal Code.

Code Enforcement Hearing Process

The Administrative Hearing Panel shall schedule and conduct hearings as to the existence of Municipal Code violations and state the method of abatement available. Property owners or occupants may abate the nuisance themselves prior to the scheduled hearing to avoid possible penalties. The panel ensures that each case is handled as fairly and carefully as possible and that the same standards are applied equitably and consistently. The hearing panel shall render its decision within ten days from the date of the hearing.

Agendas and draft minutes are available prior to the hearings.
